The highlight of the evening was award presentations to two gentlemen who have done so much for our fishery. One is Don Clayton (2022 PSA Unsung Hero) . Don even at the age of 82 can out work the best of us. It was noted that both of our honorees keep themselves moving, enjoy the outdoors, have a lot of friends, and pursue an activity that they are passionate about --- namely working to preserve our local Steelhead fishery. The secret to a long life?
Don Clayton was recognized for his almost 30 years of work with 3-C-U. His largely unseen and tireless dedication to helping manage 3-C-U’s cooperative nurseries in western Erie County was praised. It was estimated that Don has helped raised well over a million steelhead and brown trout through his work in 3-C-U. His daughter, Peggy, talked fondly about her dad and then he was presented with a plaque honoring his achievements.
